What Is Biofeedback?

Biofeedback is a psychophysiological technique that allows patients to observe their bodily and mental parameters in real time, learning to voluntarily regulate them. Within the MindLAB Set, biofeedback is based on electrodermal activity, which is closely linked to arousal, the level of psychophysiological activation.

Analysis and interpretation of physiological data

Therapeutic Goals

Through biofeedback, patients can:

  • Reduce anxiety and stress
  • Improve mood tone
  • Enhance body awareness
  • Promote deep relaxation
  • Develop emotional self-regulation strategies
  • Monitor the effectiveness of psychotherapy
  • Restore balance through awareness

How It Works in the MindLAB Set

The MindLAB Set provides:

  • Visual feedback: graphs and color bars showing arousal trends
  • Auditory feedback: sounds modulated according to activation levels
  • Real-time tracing: continuous visualization of electrodermal activity
  • Data recording and comparison: archiving and session-to-session tracking

Guided by the therapist, the patient learns to modulate arousal through breathing, relaxation, and visualization exercises.

Scientific Foundations

Electrodermal biofeedback is supported by decades of research in:

  • Clinical psychology
  • Psychiatry
  • Neuropsychology
  • Psychosomatic medicine
  • Psychiatric rehabilitation
  • Child and adolescent neuropsychiatry

The protocol developed by Tullio Scrimali integrates biofeedback with experimental psychodiagnostics, offering a scientific, personalized, and visualizable approach.

Educational Applications

Biofeedback is also a powerful educational tool:

  • Usable in classrooms with projector and audio amplification
  • Demonstrative for students of psychology, medicine, and psychotherapy
  • Integrable into international workshops and seminars

Biofeedback is not just a technique:
it is an experience of awareness, a bridge between mind and body, between science and care.
