Experimental Psychodiagnostics of Arousal

Illustrazione introduttiva del sistema MindSCAN, che rappresenta l’integrazione tra cervello, dati e analisi psicofisiologica.

Assessing the Mind Through Arousal

The MindLAB Set is an advanced clinical tool for assessing mental processes related to arousal, such as:

  • Anxiety
  • Stress
  • Mood tone
  • Psychotic condition

Through a non-invasive recording lasting only a few minutes, the system allows for a scientific and intuitive exploration of the patient’s psychophysiological state.

MindSCAN
Scientific and Evidence-Based Assessment

MindSCAN is an original and innovative psychophysiological assessment procedure, developed by Tullio Scrimali (Scrimali, 2010; 2012). Based on scientific evidence and clinically validated, MindSCAN enables:

  • Analysis of mental data related to arousal
  • Simple and intuitive visualization
  • Comprehensibility even for the patient

The electrodermal trace is processed in real time and displayed as a color-coded map, accompanied by an automatic diagnosis of arousal: normal, low, or high.

Katane Database
Foundation of Experimental Psychodiagnostics

This result is made possible by a crucial scientific achievement: the Katane Database, developed by Prof. Scrimali through:

  • Thousands of recordings from healthy subjects, to build a normative reference
  • Thousands of recordings from psychiatric patients, to identify clinical patterns

The Katane Database enabled the birth of a true Experimental Psychodiagnostics, grounded in objective and visualizable data.

Mind Mapping Katane – The Chromatic Map of Arousal

In analogy with EEG Brain Mapping (as in the Neuroguide system), Prof. Scrimali developed an original system of Mind Mapping Katane: a chromatic visualization of arousal, generated from the Katane Database.

Color — Meaning — Electrodermal Range
Color Meaning Electrodermal Range
🟩 Green Normal state 1–10 microsiemens
⬜ Gray Depressed mood Low values
🟨 Yellow Neurotic anxiety Elevated values
🟥 Red Psychotic condition Very high values

This map is immediately understandable, both for clinicians and patients. The expert system processes the data and generates a detailed report, printable and archivable

Monitoring and Follow-Up

Each recording is stored on the computer, allowing for:

  • Comparison between sessions
  • Analysis of changes and evolutionary trends
  • Monitoring of therapeutic effectiveness

MindSCAN, Mind Mapping, and the Katane Database represent a breakthrough in psychodiagnostics:
a form of knowledge that is visualizable, shareable, and evidence-based.
